National Trails Day
National Trails Day celebrates the great outdoors nationwide. This day intends to encourage people to get outdoors and enjoy nature and trails that are accessible to them on a local, state and federal level. On National Trails Day, the Smoky Mountain Hiking Club hosts a clean-up of the Appalachian Trail in the national park. After a day of hard work, participants will gather at Metcalf Bottoms for a picnic. National Trails Day is an opportunity to work within crews of experienced maintainers and see how much work goes into the beautiful trails we hike on in the GSM. The Smoky Mountain Hiking Club has cared for the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies for almost 100 years.
